Today marks Gavin's two week birthday! We had a wonderful second week. It has been so much better than the first week. That week was Gavin learning about the outside world and Chad and I learning about Gavin. It had some trying times. And mostly during the wee hours of the night. But we made it through and each day it gets better and better. Of course we are still all learning about each other but each day we spend with him, our love and understanding grows. He is such a precious, beautiful child. Chad and I can't believe we made something so sweet and cute.
We went to the doctor yesterday and got a great report. He has gained weight and now weighs 8 pounds and 6 ounces. His circumcision has healed nicely and he hardly cried when the doctor examined him. Which is a huge jump from last week when he wailed so bad you would have thought we told him he was going to have to wear a Gator outfit home. And since his circumcision and his belly button are all healed up now, Gavin got his first real bath today! I was dreading it because he is not a fan of getting his diaper changed. As soon as that thing comes off, he starts crying and just gets himself so worked up. So I figured that putting him in the bath was not going to be an easy task. But he proved mommy wrong! He did SO GOOD! He just laid there and let us bathe him. I was so proud of him. And he smells so good now. We had been giving him sponge baths here and there but he really needed a good cleaning. Days of spilled milk and multiple diaper changes warrant a nice long soak in the tub. Now if we can just get him to stop being wide awake at midnight...
It has been so nice because Nana and Nee Nee have both been here and spoiling that baby boy rotten. I swear I haven't held him for more than a minute the last two days. But that is okay- he is most definitely surrounded by loads of love this week. I don't think his head touched his crib mattress one time today. He was held constantly the entire day. But no doubt, he will be wide awake at midnight and Chad and I will be up watching David Letterman and whatever else crap is on late night TV.
It is so funny to think about but yesterday was my due date. And yet my son is two weeks old. I got an email notice the day we brought him home that I was 39 weeks pregnant. I never made it that far in the pregnancy! I am still getting used to saying 'when I was pregnant'. And it is so wild not having him rolling around inside of me. He got the hiccups every night and they would keep me up. Now he gets the hiccups and they keep everybody up. But like I said, we are all getting used to our new life style and I am sure next week will be a whole other experience. We are just so glad he is finally here. Even when he pees on me and poops all over the new diaper we just put on him, we don't mind it at all. Just one look at those blue eyes and all is well in our world.
