Gavin: One Month

It is so hard to believe and the words don't even seem real, but today is Gavin's one month birthday. Where have the days gone?? It seems like not too long ago I was still pregnant and wondering what he looked like. Now here we are, a month later, and I know he is the most precious thing I have ever laid my eyes on. Every day there is something different and wonderful about him. We have learned that he now has a favorite pacifier. We have twenty of these things and he has to have this certain one. Do you know how hard it is to keep up with ONE pacifier?? He does have a close second but he only takes it if he is in the mood. He is slowly learning how to use his hands. He still can't manage them very well, especially when he gets frustrated, but he can wipe his eyes and grab my shirt. And he loves to hold the bottle when we feed him one. He is becoming so much more aware of his surroundings. He loves to look at lights. The other day he was staring at the ceiling and for some reason was completely fascinated by the air vent. Ah to be new to the world!

And there are certainly things that are different about me. For instance, I can't believe how much I can function on a few 2 hour spurts of sleep. I am not saying I function WELL but I function. I have discovered there are lots of things I can do with one eye open and holding a hungry baby. And it amazes me how I can balance a car seat carrying a nine pound baby, a full diaper bag, a grocery cart and still manage to wrestle the keys out and unlock the car. I didn't think I had it in me. I am not an especially coordinated person but apparently these things become second nature to you once you give birth.

So happy one month birthday to my amazing, sweet son. You have made my life so complete in a few short weeks! I can't wait to see what the rest of our days together bring!
