Sleeping Like a Baby

Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! I have an important announcement to make! Listen closely as this is major breaking news. And when I say major news, I mean it is extremely important to me and you might not really care that much but I am pretending that you do. Gavin slept through the night last night!!! I have no idea what we did or why he did it but he slept for seven straight hours. I am thrilled beyond words. Ok, not really because that rarely ever happens but I am so happy and proud of him!!

Now you would think that my initial reaction would have been one of joy and pride. That isn't really how it went down at all. It was more like me just happening to wake up and roll over to take a peak at the clock. Of course I was expecting it to stare back at me with its usual 2:00. You can imagine my shock when it said 5:00. I panicked! I looked at the monitor and saw him in his crib and immediately thought something was wrong. I threw off the covers and ran into his nursery, freaking Chad out as I went tearing through our room. I quickly checked to make sure Gavin was breathing. And sure enough, there he was, sleeping soundly doing his cute little quick breaths and having his sweet little baby Gavin dreams. I just stood there in shock. I couldn't believe, still can't believe, that he slept through the night!! I am sure he won't do this again. It was just a little tease. But the fact is, he DID IT!! He showed us that it can be done. And I don't have to worry about these horror stories I hear of people having two and four year olds that still don't sleep through the night. Just the thought of that makes me have flashbacks of the heart burn Gavin used to give me and believe me, that isn't a pleasant feeling. Chad and I were so excited that we woke Gavin up to tell him how great he did.

And just to top off the joyous beginning to this day, he decided he was going to smile at me. Not at the lamp or the fan or some random spot on the wall but ME. He looked right at my face and smiled. That smile said "Hello, Mommy! I know who you are and I love you!" I wish I could bottle that up and just keep it forever!!!

Here are a few more picks of Gavin. You know, my son that can sleep through the night!

  1. So happy for you and Chad!!!! And proud of little Gavin. What a big boy he is becoming. The new pictures are so adorable. Can't wait to see him in person as he is growing and changing so fast when you look at his photos.

Kudos to some great parenting (mainly just loving him to pieces) and letting him know he is safe.

Many hugs and kisses for the entire Mihalek family.

    Love,
    Kim

  3. Three words: "Feed, awake, sleep."

    One more word: "Babywise."

It really does work! Woo-hoo Gavin! Good job, son.
