Baby It's Cold Outside!

Our wintery wonderland has finally arrived in Edmond, Oklahoma! Last night Chad went out to move our garbage can because the wind was starting to pick up pretty bad. (If you don't move your can inside your garage when the wind starts howling, in a matter of minutes you will see everything you thought you tossed out of your life flying across your yard and heading out into the unknowns of the neighborhood.) He came back in and nonchalantly said he wanted to show me something. So I got my jacket on and went outside. I freaked out. It was snowing! Not just a little flurry here or a speck there. It was full on SNOWING! I of course was so excited about this. I am from Florida and snow is a foreign element to folks like me. I held out my hand and caught a glimpse at a few snowflakes before they melted in my hands. They really are beautifully crafted little natural wonders. Our entire yard, house, neighborhood was covered in them. It was absolutely beautiful.

I actually have snow in my front yard. That is a statement I have never been able to say before!
I wanted SO bad to go wake Gavin up and show him our new white lawn. I know he would love it. But I resist my urge and get my cold butt back inside. So this morning I woke up with an extra skip in my step. All I could think about was that I had to get him outside before the sun melted everything away. So I got him dressed and outside we went. Unfortunately it wasn't as covered as it was last night but it was still very white. He was immediately amazed at this transformation. He looked at me with a big smile on his face saying "You did all this for me?" I smiled back and said "Of course, son, I did all of it for you!" I sat him down on a towel and he just took it all in. It didn't take long for him to want to be picked up though. New things are exciting but they can also be overwhelming. He felt much better enjoying it in Mommy's arms.

He would not keep his gloves on!

Um, okay, I don't know about this.
So that was Gavin's very first time in the snow. I am sure he will have many adventures in it. It reminded me of when I was a kid. As I said I am from Florida and freezing temperatures are a rarity there. But the few times it did get below freezing, my dad would turn the sprinkler on the night it was to be cold and make sure it covered everything. He froze our swing set, the trees, the ground, anything he could reach with the sprinkler. My brother and I would wake up the next morning and think he performed a miracle. It was our very own icy wonderland. Any time it got even the slightest bit cold, we would beg him to ice over the yard. It is one of my favorite childhood memories. I am sure Gavin will have a few of his own in the real stuff.
