Time just keeps on marching. And it is marching all around my living room. Well, more like rolling. We are now in the double digits! Chad and I were talking last night about when Gavin was brand new, he would hold his head up for a few seconds and then bop it back down on our shoulders. He was holding his up right away and we were so proud of him. Now here we are 10 months later and he is moving around our kitchen in his walker, throwing things and babbling incoherent words.
This month has brought the most significant changes we have seen in him. He is rolling all over the place. When he wants to go to the other side of the living room, he rolls there. When he wants to get to his toy bin, he rolls there. He looks like a soldier on a covert ops mission. This has led to some changes in our household. Mainly the outlet covers being plugged and cords and anything on the floor have pretty much been moved out of reach. The other day I was in the kitchen and he was in his walker. I turned around and he was playing with a Cheerios box. I had no idea where he got it from until I realized he had "walked" himself into the laundry room and gotten into the trash. Thank goodness it was just a cereal box and not an old banana peel or coffee grinds. There will be a lid on it from now on. We are slowly learning! He can now pull himself up into a sitting position. We have seen him try on numerous occasions to lean forward and crawl, but he always ends up on his tummy. But he is getting there. He knows he wants to do it, he just can't quite figure out how just yet.
He has moved up to taking a bath in the "big" tub. We had him in the blow up ducky but it was getting too small for him. He thinks this new bath time arrangement is the best thing we have ever done for him. He has learned that he cannot drink the water because it does not feel good going up his nose. And that trying to get the whale faucet protector off always ends up with him taking a dunk under water, so we don't do that anymore. But he loves the room and the bubbles are so much better in this new tub. It's a whole new world to him!
Having fun with the bubbles. |
So this last month has brought lots of new and exciting changes to our household. I am clinging on to these last days of having an immobile child. For I fear they are swiftly coming to an end. I have given in to the fact that he will learn to crawl and walk and am now excited to see him wiggling his little butt around the house. And I am actually thankful because he is doing nothing but getting heavier. It is good for my arm muscles but my back is killing me! Our next adventure is to get a new car seat. His poor little legs are getting way too long for the infant carrier. I remember when we brought him home in that thing. It practically swallowed him. He was so tiny inside of it. Now he is hanging out everywhere. Like I said, time keeps on marching...
