After traveling more than 1500 miles, Chad and I finally made it to our destination. It was quite the adventure. The last 400 miles into El Paso are nothing short of brutal. There is absolutely NOTHING out there. Between Austin and El Paso, you better pray for good tires and proper gas stops. We saw a car that exploded on the side of the road. It was literally engulfed in flames and we could feel the heat of it as we passed by. That was enough to get our adrenaline pumping but not one thing compares to the site of El Paso. Once you see those lights on the horizon, you feel like you have accomplished the biggest feat in your life!!
Chad and I had a great time on the trip though. We laughed and played stupid games. We invented the "Penzke Pump" which is when you see another Penske truck, you give him a fist pump in the air. It is stupid, I know, but it kept us entertained. We saw so many sights and I learned quite a few things. Here are a few of the important ones:
*America really is beautiful
*I never want to live in downtown Houston
*there is a live tiger at a rest stop in Louisiana
*it is scary has hell driving up on fast approaching brake lights when
everything you own is in the truck you are driving
*there are alligators in Texas (who knew??)
*I want to spend a whole day in Fredericksburg, Texas. I can totally see
a bond forming between me and that town.
*there is a such thing as "Beaver Nuggets". I have no idea what they are
but there were signs all over Louisiana for them.
*Highway 71 in Texas is one of the most beautiful stretches of road I have
ever been on
Ok, so about the tiger. Yes, there is a live tiger and it is in the grossest rest stop I have ever seen. Where is PETA?? It is in a town called Grosse Tete. Let your imagination run wild.
So now we are in El Paso and my stuff is scattered everywhere. I worked all day yesterday and it doesn't look like I did anything. I am saving my shoes for last because I know they all won't fit in our closet and I can't bear to even think about it. Every time I do, I bite a nail off. So I guess I better get to working on today's chores. Maybe by Thanksgiving I will be done...

You will love Fredericksburg! You should venture one weekend to north texas hill country!! Has you noticed yet that the sky really looks bigger in texas??
ReplyDeleteYeh! A real live post from my GIRL! So glad to hear that you haven't lost that "Claire Attitude" while driving across the country. Loved reading about your adventure.
ReplyDeletePS The spare bedroom closet is where all your extra clothes and shoes should go (hope it's a big closet or you're in trouble!).
Love ya!
Hey Honey - I enjoyed your blog as usual. I am glad that your trip was an adventure and that you learned a lot - alligators in Texas - seriously? Are they bigger than the ones in Florida? You will be surprised how closets can expand when it's for something important - like shoes! How was your trip to Lowe's/Home Depot? I hope you found everything you needed. I can hardly wait for you to come home. I am putting your Tax Return in the mail today to have it guaranteed to get there by Monday. Must get back to work. Talk to you soon. I love you and Chad.
ReplyDeleteYay an update!!! So glad y'all made it safely! We will have Skype soon so that you can "show" me your new home! :) Love you!!
ReplyDeleteA tiger in a rest stop in a town called Grosse Tete? Well, hat is definitely strange and where is PETA? lol! Glad you both made it safely and had an adventurous and memorable drive to El Paso. Have heard so much about Hwy 71. That is one of the routes for our next long road trip that is somewhere on our list of things to do and places to see...So, I want to see some pics of the new place! And now I feel like I need to start checking flight prices from here to El Paso after Hayes is born.... Love you!
