Wedded Bliss

Well, as most of you know, the wedding was WONDERFUL!! I am so glad we got married at West Point. It was a moment we will never forget and in a place that is truly special to us. The reception was a blast. It was a little TOO much fun. Chad and I quickly found out that we can't necessarily party it up like we used to. I will leave out those details as I can't relive them without feeling a throbbing headache and a huge dependency on Gatorade.

So now I am in El Paso and reality is setting in. No more wedding gown to wear, no more party to plan (I have however managed to figure out a way to wear my wedding shoes ONE more time. Marie's wedding. Thanks, Marie!!!) I have quickly learned a few things in the week that I have been a wife to Chad. And I know I have SO much more to learn...

1. I cannot for the life of me boil an egg. I over cooked them TWICE. What is the secret?? Rachel Ray is a moron. Or I am. I think it is the latter.
2. Adding another person's dirty clothes to your clothes adds up to A LOT of laundry. How many socks can one man have?? Does he change them at lunch??
a. this is a sub-lesson of #2- washing a flight suit is a pain in the butt. You have a million and one patches to take off and there are a million and one pockets to go through. There are pockets inside of pockets. It's ridiculous. Seriously, you need five pockets at the MOST. Everything else is just a woman's nightmare.
3. Just let him drive. ALWAYS.
4. I have nubs for fingers due to excessive thank-you note writing. I am truly grateful for all of the gifts we were given. It was overwhelming. But, really, can't I just email or Facebook my thank yous?? If you have not received a thank you note from me, please know it is coming. I am getting there. It is so tough being a proper southern girl!!
5. If you live in El Paso, you have to water your plants twice as much as anywhere else. Including Iraq. This atmosphere will suck the life out of them if you do not stay on top of it. I think my peace lilly flat lined twice before I got him to realize that life isn't that bad here.
6. I miss my mother something fierce! If Hardie was your mother, wouldn't you???
7. Bed Bath and Beyond is my best friend! What in the world did new wives do without it?? I have been there every day this week. The cashier and I are best friends now. I think I am paying for her college education at this point.

I am sure I will learn more things today, and a few more the next, and so and so forth. It is definitely an experience but I am truly loving every minute of it. God blessed me with a wonderful husband so the little adjustments I have to make here and there are completely worth it. Chad said he is so surprised at how well I am handling being out here. He thought for sure I would be in the fetal position in a corner by now. I told him two things: I am where I need to be and it has only been a week. Give it time. Come football season I will be crying like a baby. Just kidding. That will be another lesson for me to learn...

  1. You are so funny!! I'm glad to hear you are adjusting and that married life is treating you well except the laundry! The kids and I had a great time at the reception. You made Kinleigh's day by being the bride who took the time to say hi and hug her! Enjoy!
