Welcome to Oklahoma

Well, yesterday was quite an adventure to say the least. We live in an amazing little community and right near awesome big city life. However, the price is having to live in Tornado Alley. Yesterday was our first experience with these storms and let me just say, it was pretty frightening. All day long the news channels were tracking these storms and letting us know to be prepared. They did an AMAZING job. You can tell they have been doing this for quite some time and they have it down to an art. We knew that the tornadoes were getting close to Edmond but you can just never tell with these things. They have a mind of their own. They can touch down anywhere at anytime and go in any direction they so choose. The governor ordered everyone to be sent home from work, so Chad got home early and it didn't take too much longer to realize we might be in for a thrill.

The news was tracking a HUGE tornado that was inching its way near Oklahoma City. Chad started getting things together to be prepared to huddle in the shower. He had his helicopter and motorcycle helmets in the shower in the event we needed to throw them on for protection. He grabbed a first aid kit and Gavin's car seat. You can tell he was thinking like a true agent. You know what I grabbed? My diaper bag, my camera and my make up. I have NO idea why I got my make up but I guess a girl needs to look good even in the event of a disaster. I'm new to this, give me a break! So while being glued to the television, we all of a sudden heard the tornado alarm go off and this is when I started to panic. I have never heard this before and it was extremely loud and shocking. It is meant to strike fear into anyone that can hear it and it did its job. Chad immediately said "Get in the car, we are going to Ryan's." This is a co-worker of his that lives in a neighborhood next to ours and has a storm shelter. It is a room that is built into the ground and practically every new house in this area has one. We grabbed everything we had packed and jumped in the car. All of the neighbors were leaving the neighborhood and that was a scary sight in its self.

We got to Ryan's and hunkered down with his family in the storm shelter. Ryan had done this plenty of times before and he was cool as a cucumber. This made me calm down a lot. He had a radio and we found out that the tornado was SIX MILES from Edmond!! Unbelievable! The entire time we were running around the house, jumping in the car and huddled in the shelter, our brave little son was sound asleep. He could have cared less. The minute we got home he woke up and started letting us know he was hungry. The trials and tribulations of an infant don't stop for anything. Even mother nature.

Storm? What storm?

What is the big deal??

The storm passed by so quickly, you would have never known it was there except for the puddles of water everywhere. The wind and rain were coming in full force and all of a sudden, everything went still and the sun came out. It was amazing. Of course today we are learning of the total destruction these storms took on our state. It is just horrible. I won't bore you with details as I am sure you all have heard it on the news. These things are no joke and I would totally appreciate it if God decided to never send one of these our way again. I moved from Florida and away from fear of a hurricane and now I have to deal with these things. Lovely!

Thank you to everyone who called and sent messages. We are all fine and today has turned out to be a gorgeous day. We are all just fine and thankfully spared any harm or destruction. Please send up your prayers for the people that were not so fortunate. Gavin is none the wiser through all of this. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
