A Colorful Thanksgiving

This year Gavin and I traveled up to Tennessee to spend Thanksgiving with my in-laws. Our trip started out at a very early 4:00 in the morning. I think Gavin handled it better than I did. But we got to our flight on time and it was easy sailing to Nashville. Gavin was once again the perfect little flying companion and honestly didn't fuss the whole trip there. I was a little worried since he had a bit of a head cold and I wasn't too sure how his ears would do with the altitude but he was a champ. I love it when people brag to me about my own child. They come up to me like maybe I wasn't aware that he did brilliantly on the plane. But I never tire of hearing it.

Dennis, Chad's dad, works for TSA so he was already at the airport waiting to pick us up. It is always funny when he is in his uniform and walking us out of the airport terminal. We get a few stares from passengers wondering what we did wrong to be escorted from the premises.

Tennessee was so beautiful when we arrived. I always love visiting because they live in a very pretty part of Tennessee. But this time the fall leaves were still changing and there were quite a few trees that were trying to hang on to this last bit of leaves before winter hit.

Beautiful red leaves

Gavin had a blast in the leaves

The weather was so nice and cool while we were up there. It actually felt like Thanksgiving weather. Sue took me and Gavin and Brooke (my sister-in-law) and Knox (the newest addition to the Mihalek clan) to a crafts bazaar in nearby Franklin. We had a lot of fun and I bought Gavin the CUTEST bow tie. I was a little concerned that he might not wear it but he didn't have a problem with looking a little dapper.

My little fashion statement

Thanksgiving day was filled with hot kitchens and yummy smells. Everyone came over to Sue and Dennis' house and it was two tables worth of family. The day was complete with football games and lots of chatter over delicious food. I forgot my camera while trying to fumble around in the early morning hours so I had to make do with iPhone pictures. This also meant that I did not get pictures of Gavin and his cousins. It is impossible to capture three boys unless you have a nice camera with some high powered shutter speed! But I promise you they had a good time together.

We got to Skype with Chad and he is doing well. They were able to get a turkey fryer and fried some turkey for Thanksgiving. He said he ate a lot but you can't tell by looking at him. He tells me he has lost 24 pounds since being over there. He just flies and goes to the gym. We are over the half way mark now. We have a little over three months to go. On one hand it has gone by fast and on another it is still slowly ticking along. But we will get there!

Hello Hubby!

Gavin and Daddy giving each other high-fives!
We really enjoyed our time with the Mihalek side of the family. I know they will be so glad when we see each other next because it will mean Chad is home. They are just as ready to see him as I am. We made it home without any bumps in our travel plans. Which I am so very thankful for because it was not a very light traveling day and I only had a 30 minute layover in Atlanta. But it all went as planned and Gavin continues to be a good little traveler. I don't know what I did to deserve him! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
