I was very much looking forward to this Christmas. Gavin was only 9 months old last year at Christmas time and the most he got into it was eating the bows on the packages. So this year was going to be very exciting for both of us. However, it started off a little too early in the morning. I woke up to Gavin crying and walked out to find my sweet brother trying to rock him back to sleep. It was about 2:30 in the morning and I am pretty sure Gavin didn't wake up due to the overwhelming anticipation of Santa's arrival. I'm not sure why he woke up but he ended up in bed with me. I absolutely hate doing this because Gavin is not what you call a peaceful sleeper. He tosses and turns, constantly hits me in my back and face, he cries and laughs in his sleep. It is a most restful sleep for him but for me it's a blond-haired, blue-eyed nightmare. But it is one of those things we do for our kids, sacrifice our sleep so they can get theirs. I can handle lack of sleep a lot better than he can. Plus I was just too lazy and tired to rock him back to sleep, so in the bed he went.
About 7:15 a.m. brought the familiar callings of "Milk! Milk!" (However, it comes out more like "Meeeeeeeelk! Meeeeeeelk!" It's adorable.) So everyone took their positions in the living room and he made his grand entrance, milk in tow. I can best describe it through pictures...
At first he was sort of like, "Why is everyone staring at me?" Then he saw the toys and was more like "Wow! Is this for real??"

So exciting!!! |

He was a VERY good boy this year! |
 |
He always wants to figure out how things work. |

What is this stocking you speak of?? |
 |
Maverick was always close by to help a lending paw. |
Of course it all ended in a flash with torn up wrapping paper and a toy strewn living room. But Gavin's excitement lasted the whole day and into the day after.

Still enjoying the spirit of Christmas |
It was all very wonderful and could not have gone better. Except maybe if Chad had walked through the front door. But we do not live in a wish-granting world. The best we can do is love what we have and those we get to share it with, even if it is over an ocean. I pray that we continue to be blessed by the spirit of Jesus throughout the coming year and that Chad just walks through the front door, period.
